So you have job that means you cant work at summer camp - do you take a 2 weeks of your hols to volunteer at a camp thus spending it away from OH/family or struggle with your camp withdrawl and go on a family vacation/hols with OH?

I would volunteer at a camp--- I done this in the past and this has helped with not being at camp for the whole summer
would you rather work at the Nature program or the Arts and crafts program -- if these were the only 2 choices you had

arts and crafts - cos you make bows and arrows and hence do my true calling to teach archery (hehe!)
run an arts and crafts program with very little money or supplies but enthusiastic staff OR with lots of money and staff who really couldnt be any less enthusiastic if they tried?

Individual cabins. cook out, to me, is a bonding time for small groups, rather than the huge meals with the whole camp.
Spending most of your programs (let's say nature or arts and crafts) budget on one HUGE and totally awesome thing or spreading out out and getting several smaller, not nearly as awesome but still valuable things?

too many staff-- you never know when you may need the extra staff in case of camper or staff injuries or campers getting homesick or campers needing to use the bathroom-- I had times this past summer where I thought I had too many staff and then was happy I had them when I had homesick campers or campers who slipped and fell and needeed to be transported to the nurse( I had no walkie talkie and it wasnt so bad that I needed to use my cell phone to call it in)
Anyway back to topic-- have too many staff assigned to a cabin or not enough-- keep in mind time off and day off schudules
PM me if you want to sign up for the camp buddies for this summmer.

too many - although that can present its own challenges when planning TO as I have experienced
Allowing staff in a unit the freedom to work out time off among themselves - following camp guidelines - or have a head counsellor or AD who works out everyones TO at the same time?

Do it for themselves. Our AD staff tried doing it for us for a week, and it was a disaster. I think it's also a good way to build communication skills (speaking up for yourself - or for the little guy) between unit staff when they have to do it on their own. I personally enjoyed doing it the day of ("hey, can I have 2-4? sure, you can have 4-6" and so on).
Falling in love with a staff member at your camp, or at a camp totally unlike yours that makes it somewhat difficult to talk about camp experiences (one is more rustic and "campy" and one is more upper-class and has A/C)?

Working it out with the rest of your unit staff - as a UL last year I only ever put my foot down and claimed a TO before my unit staff - the rest of the time we worked together so we all got the TO times we wanted
completely random and nothing to do with camp: legally blonde or sweet home alabama

last 8 weeks. The warmer half of summer is always best Work at a smaller camp as Ad Staff not getting paid all too much, or work at a bigger camp as a counselor (let's say just regular old unit counselor) and get a huge pay raise?
